This past Sunday the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profisional (LPFP) held the drawing for this upcoming season’s fixtures. Along with the drawing, the LPFP also announced last season’s award winners. Jorge Jesus won the Coach of the Year award, Enzo won the Most Valuable Player award, Jan Oblak won the Best Goalkeeper award, and to round off the awards, Bernardo Silva won the Revelation Player of the Year for the second league. After having Sunday off, the squad reported back to work this morning at the Seixal. Certainly the biggest news surrounding the team are the exits of Markovic and Jan Oblak. The two players had orders to report to the Seixal this morning and only one of them showed up. Markovic, who was all over the papers as having completed a move to Liverpool for a reported 25 million Euros this past weekend, reported to camp, and was spotted running on the training pitch. After Friday’s completion of the squad’s physical and medical examinations, and an afternoon trip to the Sagres brewery in Vialonga, the squad had their first contact with the ball at the Seixal this Saturday. Saturday’s training session, which was closed off to the media, was the first official training session for new signing Luis Felipe. Pre-Season Day 1
Benfica got their 2014/2015 started this Thursday. A mix of new faces, loan returns, and the majority of last season’s team, were all spotted at the Caixa Futebol Campus in the Seixal today. A total of 29 players reported to Benfica’s training facilities, the number is far from being the number of players that JJ will work with during the season, but seeing who reported allows us to have a good idea which players were actually off season acquisitions, or just media speculations.
